United by Sports: every child deserves an opportunity is a community-based intervention that uses sports as a healthy outlet for trauma, idleness, and stress in children and youth living in IDP camps and underserved communities. It promotes healing, structure, and a sense of belonging – reducing crime and the indulgence with substance abuse.
• Who are the Target Audience :
Vulnerable children and youth—particularly those in internally displaced persons (IDP) camps, informal settlements, and low-income communities—who lack access to safe recreational and psychosocial support systems.
• What are the Expected Outcomes:
•Reduced trauma-related symptoms and behavioral issues.
•Re-engagement in structured activities that build discipline and life skills.
•Improved literacy, self-esteem, and teamwork.
•Identification and nurturing of sports talent
•Greater protection against drug use, violence, and exploitation.
Our current implementation site for the United by Sport: Every Child Deserves an Opportunity initiative is the Wassa Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp. This location was selected due to its high population of vulnerable children and youth, many of whom lack access to structured recreational and development opportunities. Through this program, we are engaging the community with sports-based activities, mentoring, sensitization on substance abuse, and the provision of essential sports gear, all aimed at fostering hope, inclusion, and long-term empowerment.
